Leonis of Chatam No. 27
Pictures & Crew
The 'Northern Fleet' i.e. Stellas owners on the Orwell, Deben, Ore and Alde were delighted to here that Leonis had been bought by a group of enthusiastic and able people who immediately started to restore and make great use of Leonis on the Deben and the surrounding rivers. The boat is in part ownership which means she is well used and lots of manpower!

Leonis and her friendly crew were seen many times by the northern fleet during 2005 and 2006 and she further renovation has taken place over the past winter in readiness for the 2007 season.

Here are a few pictures sent by her crew of Leonis' exploits:

Does anyone know where and when?

The Leonis crew are now doing the inside, having completely re-done the deck, sheer plank, rubbing strake, chain plates, samson post, transom top etc etc. Atkins & Cripps for hardwood, Ridgeons for plywood, Marine & Industrial for Wests epoxy, Anglia Stainless for bronze screws, Blakes paints, Classic Marine for galvanized chainplates, bolts etc....
We have stuck with re-conditioning the 12hp petrol RCA Dolphin, which we are delighted with, now we know more about the wet exhaust system!
Please see attached snaps of the trailer and tarpaulin, beautifully made in 'rip-stop' cotton canvas by Ipswich Tarpaulins for a very reasonable sum.

'Undercover' work.

Just by chance, the three Deben Stellas  (Leonis, Caravelle and Persephone) met on a bright and rather windless morning near the Rocks at Waldringfield. Much friendly waving and taking of photo's took place.

The Harwich Shelf Incident

All of us manage to put our boats in places we would rather have avoided during our sailing career. Some of us get away with it, without onlookers, however the Leonis crew chose a spectacularly visible location right in the middle of Harwich harbour.

The first I heard of this was through a phone call from Rolfe who asked "How far does a Stella lean over when she dries out?" I had to admit I didn't know, but the answer is clear from the pictures!
Rolfe says "We had just been aground for 5 hours the previous evening on the Harwich Shelf right outside the Harwich Haven control tower!

No harm done and now we know what to do when we go aground (in good weather though). Time for a pint and some fish and chips though.

Otherwise a great weekend sailing ".

Leonis's owners are Rolfe, Tim, Rob and Ann and she is moored during the season below Waldringfield on the Deben.
